Back during the cold war – the good ol’ days – one of the Soviet intel requirements was the secret location in the US – probably deep in the Rockies mountains – where people who ran the US gov’t and the US economy met to do all the coordination necessary to run this great country. Soviets did not believe things worked as well as they did through coincidence.
I don’t think they ever found that place.
Though it is an interesting idea… that I believe has some traction today with all the coordinated bad shit going on in this country.
Not a Dr Strangelove place exactly, but there are some unreported interconnected factors lending to the demise of traditional American ideals of individual responsibility, which caused the appearance to the Soviets back in the day of a hidden gov’t elite. There is no doubt some Dr Strangelove’s goin’ on.
Among the great books written in the past 20 years was Herrnstein and Murray’s The Bell Curve. 860 pages of insightful analysis of Intelligence and Class Structure in American Life. Though it was published in early 90s, it gets us going on this “interconnected “ thing.
Let’s start on page 9 of the introduction of that great book:
“(The behaviorist view is that human potential is almost perfectly malleable, shaped by the environment. The contrary view is that individual differences could not easily be diminished or improved by the environment or government intervention. These two ideas) collided head-on with a half century of IQ data indicating that differences in intelligence are intractable and significantly heritable and that the average IQ of various socioeconomic and ethnic groups differs.
In 1969, Arthur Jensen, an educational psychologist and expert on testing from the University of California at Berkley, put a match to this volatile mix of science and ideology with an article in the Harvard Educational Review. Asked by the Review’s editors to consider why compensatory and remedial education programs began with such high hopes during the War on Poverty had yielded such disappointing results, Jensen concluded that the programs were bound to have little success because they were aimed at populations of youngsters with relatively low IQs, and success in school depended to a considerable degree on IQ.
IQ had a large heritable component, Jensen also noted. The article further disclosed that the youngsters in the targeted populations were disproportionately black and that historically blacks as a population had exhibited average IQs substantially below those of whites.
The reaction to Jensen’s article was immediate and violent. From 1969 through the mid-1970s, dozens of books and hundreds of articles appeared denouncing the use of IQ tests and arguing that mental abilities are determined by environment, with genes playing a minor role and race none at all…. During the first few years after the Harvard Educational Review article was published, Jensen could appear in no public forum in the United States without triggering something perilously close to a riot.” This reaction necessarily lent support to a vast array of US gov’t education and socioeconomic programs.
But in fact Jensen said what I learned growing up in tobacco fields and junks yards of North Carolina, that you can’t fix stupid.
What is interesting to note is that Murray and Herrmstien’s book took a long look at the differences between black and whites, but had relatively little to say how another ethnic group, Latinos, stacked up. But they make a convincing point that there are clear basic differences in US ethnic groups.
So now 20 years later, what’s goin’ on…
In Las Vegas Harry Reid has a staggering influence in encouraging immigration of Hispanic illegals to clean the 150,000 hotel rooms on the strip… and these maids often come with children. And remember public schools take in every kid that hits their door step, regardless of their immigrations status.
The 2013 school year here in Vegas town– Latinos represented 44 percent of the student population. White students made up 29 percent. Blacks and other ethnic groups represented 27 percent, including the large Asian student group.
What this means? Las Vegas schools ranks the lowest in the country as to education. Both math and reading scores average below the 25 percentile level of comparable-grade Canadian students. Let me repeat in other words… the students in Las Vegas as a group rank half as educated as Canadian kids.
Thank Harry for making us much more stupid as a nation. A former neighbor who taught school for 20 years quit last summer because she said the Las Vegas school system wasn’t for education anymore, it was a dangerous day care center, for kids who couldn’t care less about education. Couldn’t force the students to learn and PTAs were very poorly attended.
Something, isn’t it. But here’s the thing I’m getting at. Despite Harry Reid’s efforts to nurture Latinos coming into the US to work that subsequently fill our public schools with disinterested idiots… – he supports efforts to continue paying legal residents not to work (or as he says… keep in play US gov’t extended unemployment benefits).
Makes no sense. The only logic to support this is that he gains votes from the Latino community and the unemployed. Eleven states have more people on welfare than work. That’s a lot of votes.
Sure helps Democrats win elections.
To me all this’s gov’t corruption to subvert the majority rule process our hard working founding fathers put together.
The future? Well just looking at Las Vegas, which has the 5th largest school district in the country, according to the local paper the Hispanic student population soared in 2014 well beyond all expectations. And white student numbers declined.
