I got some things to say.
One: Big news in the Las Vegas papers last week - on par with the continuing reporting on the Mandalay Bay shooter - was this report.
Las Vegas (KTNV) - The Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada are closing the doors to a popular summer camp attended by thousands of local girls.
Camp Foxtail has become a tradition of the Girl Scouts for nearly 40 years.
"There is an emotional tug to camp," said Linda Bridges with the Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada.
Bridges said organizers had their hands tied when it came to making the decision to close the camp, which sits on land protecting the endangered Mt. Charleston Blue Butterfly.
"What that means for us as a camp is that we can't expand and we can't grow," Bridges said.
According to organizers, since the camp is on protected land the U.S. Forest Service has placed strict regulations on the land hindering organizers from making much needed upgrades.
Right now, Camp Foxtail needs about $1.5 million in renovations, some which they say are crucial to the safety of the scouts.
"We even tried to add an awning to one of the buildings.," Bridges said. "And that was an issue."
This story almost needs no comments. I'm sure you share with me my complete dismay that they would name a girl scout camp "Foxtail." Can you just imagine how that plays into the jokes of Boy Scouts, thinking about making a night time visit?
Two: Gloria Allred. You know her? She is not a nice person. She is on my list of she-devils with politicians Hilary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters and Frederica Wilson in addition to hollywoodites Jane Fonda, Madonna, and the fat, low mouth whose name escapes but appears often on The View.
Gloria Allred, She first gained national notoriety in the after mat of the Tyson trial when he was convicted of rape by a lady who went on her own free will to his hotel room but later claimed he didn't stop what he was intent on when she said no. Like it was all a great surprise to her. Naked, in his hotel room. But anyway Gloria Allred went out and drug the streets of LA until she found others who claimed to have been abused by Mike Tyson, and she would drag these poor darlings to her office - where the phrase became popular of - "....said in an interview in the law officers of Gloria Allred that... " Always in frame was this pious looking Allred looking concerned, when in fact she was just a sensationalist looking for a hook to gain some attention and big bucks from some deep pockets.
She's the lady by the way, who took on and destroyed Bill Cosby with what amounted to one Canadian lady's acc't of a night with the famous comedian. The rest is fire storm of alleged allegations by Allred. Most recently her name was associated with accusations that President HW Bush grouped women standing beside him for photos. This after her daily rants against Weinstein.
Three: I'm retired which leave me way too much time to ponder news headlines and trouble deaf heaven with my rants about our world gone crazy. When I calm down, like I am now, I think we live in a pretty good time... sure was the mantra of my youth in the 60s.
It is the worthless US press that is giving our world a bad name.
Let me say again, it is the messengers bringing what they want us to read - or what they think will get our fannies in a chair to watch TV news and read the NYTs - who are to fault.
And their sophistical warp of common words to cloud my understanding of the world. I was recently in communication with a group of home boys, lamenting the destructive power of "diversity" rather than, say, the power of building on "merit." In the USA starting in about the 60s, "diversity" has been our guide on social principle, or so the media has insisted. To the point that white boys are the enemy. Brassy women and "affirmative action" Blacks, the victims. You know what I mean?
There is no question that the American Way was developed over centuries by white men. Industrial revolution, the wild west and WW II, won by the white man. The social structure that was created by these events is the American Way, and to assimilate was what newcomers - immigrants and young adults - were expected to do.
Until... wait for drum roll.. until universities and the media embraced "diversity" to challenge the system.
It's caused nothing but ass pain since. Diversity as in Ferguson, Missouri, LGBT rights, hiring policies, college admission policies, human rights policies, police policies, Chicago, Detroit, sanctuary cities, ACLU. Millionaire football players taking a knee when the flag of our country is saluted.
Join me in saying that we are for color blind "merit" to move things along in our society. I am all for our gov't to respect "minority rights" but not to make that the overriding law of the land.
There I've said it, and feel better. Now go out there America, be a good Unitato. Speak out for truth, happiness and the UNC basketball program.
